There is something very nerve wracking about the selling your own car. * update below*

Part of it is stressful because it takes time and you never know what the persons going to offer or what’s going to sway them.

I’m also worried because we have a family trip in 3 weeks that I think my wife would be not impressed if we were taking the E34. So I chose a crap time to try.

One potential candidate

Mazda 6 hatchback (22 sq ft behind the seats, 56 with em folded), although the only one within 100 miles of me is a freakishly low mile and therefore slightly out of price range car and it has the 2.3 engine, which isn’t a deal breaker as some people do some cool tuning with that engine but I’d rather just have the v6 up front.

*Update: the tech/mechanic told them the transmission may have a problem and that the fluids(I knew the PS and brake fluids both should be flushed around 150k, which is soon, tsk tsk on me I guess for not doing it before listing) looked old. They didn’t say what the problem was, just that he thought something may be wrong with the transmission and if they paid for a fuller inspection he’d let them know his conclusion on it. I had the trans fluid changed at the dealer last year and they said it seemed pretty clean without debris and there were no other signs of problems.

The potential buyer asked me to pay for the fuller inspection. Nope! I’ll just put the money towards new power steering and brake fluids. I guess tsk tsk on me for not doing that before putting it up for sale. I may just live with the big mean green until it dies.

Input on the Mazda6 hatch (with the four-cylinder): it’s great. Small turning radius, good fuel economy, definitely a good choice. A little slow, but it’s good.

2.3 is the motor for me.

I wish the MS6 was in liftback form.

If you want to hang out with me, my wife, our toddler and my parents at Yellowstone, sure, hop on in.

We’ve had it for 18 months without any real problems, and taken it on a couple of 400 mile (round trp) trips without issue. Taking it 1000 miles one way though, feels like pushing my luck. Not to mention gas! The gas mileage is bad, I can’t imagine what it would be with a cargo box on top.

It all just feels too logical. Thanks for the Good feedback. I also like the wagons, they look great, and no need to worry about not getting the 6 cylinder. Harder to find though.

There are nine for sale on my local AutoTrader from $1500 to $4500, so maybe if you expand your search area a bit, you might find one? Good luck finding one with the stick, through.

You see, the manual is the... sticking point.

Well, if you want your road trip to include buying a 6 in Ontario, then do I have a deal for you!

My Mum had a 6 wagon of that gen with the diesel engine. I loved it, my dad loved it, she never really warmed up to it. Great handling but steering feels dead around around the center.

Yeah, the 2.3 is a safer bet, and people put the cosworth intake on them and they get a really good top end. If the ms6 were in the hatch or wagon, that would interest me.

Sounds like that mechanic is an ass hole. “There’s...a problem but I won’t tell you what it is until you pay me more for a 5 minute scan tool diagnosis.

And he may just think there’s is a problem because he’s not used to a CVT.

I’m fairly sure he used a diagnostic scanner, and there were no codes. The freestyles transmission does whine, I’ll admit it, but every one I’ve ever seen does it, and mine has done it since I bought it around 100,000 miles. I’m guessing he just hasn’t seen them much. I’m still not sure exactly how he planned to determine the transmissions health.

Either way, the car didn’t sell and we had a trip to Yellowstone planned so I took it off CL, and it was fine for another 2,000 miles round trip. I wish manual swaps were easier on these cars, I’d do it in a heartbeat, and convert it into a bit of a camper vehicle(remove 3rd row seats, and create storage/sleep space) and just drive it til it dies.

How difficult is it to swap in a Taurus X trans? Probably a lot harder than buying a Taurus X. I unabashedly love that car.
